Gener Hits Luzon, Many Areas Affected

Rains Pour in Laguna
August 6, 2012, a typhoon named Gener hit the Philippines and caused heavy rains in the National capital region and the surrounding provinces like Laguna and Rizal.

Gener is not classified as a storm but it was able to cause flood in many areas of the Metro Manila and Mega Manila. Classes and work were suspended in all Schools and Universities through-out Manila and some parts in the Mega Manila Region.

The floods caused the death tolls to rise above 50. Relief operations were done by various organizations. Including government organizations that took a chance to put their faces in huge tarpaulins to display to people that the relief goods came from them. The president himself even took time to ride on a huge truck, wave to disaster-struck people and have his own picture taken as he gives away relief goods. Its somehow saddening to see politicians take this kinds of disasters as opportunities to be known and "liked" by masses. It's no different to paying people to vote them. Will Philippines ever see a good leader?

Back to topic. Classes are suspended until August 10, 2012 Friday however the University of the Philippines chose to hold classes. The weather is now fine in the Philippines but the aftereffect can still be seen. There are still places that are flooded. Some are still stranded and some are still recovering from the powerful deluge that hit the National capital region.

May our political leaders stop their campaigns to improve their standing to the Filipino people and start helping them without the intent of having anything in return. The Philippines is fortunate enough to have a lot of Non-Government organizations that help unconditionally. And fortunately for the Filipinos, the Filipino spirit is still strong in them. Despite the calamity, those affected can still find the energy to smile and laugh. And it's something that no storm can take away.
